Understanding Partial Discharge Field Diagnostic Testing of Shielded Power Cable Systems (4 CTDs)
Understanding Partial Discharge Field Diagnostic Testing of Shielded Power Cable Systems (4 CTDs)
This course provides a practical introduction to partial discharge (PD) field diagnostic testing for shielded medium-voltage power cable systems. Participants will learn how PD testing is used to detect, measure, and locate insulation defects in installed cable systems, including cables, joints, splices, and terminations. The course explains the differences between factory-style and field PD testing, online and offline test methods, voltage source selection, sensor application, noise mitigation, sensitivity checks, signal propagation, and interpretation of PD measurements and PRPD patterns.
This course is intended for electrical testing technicians, field engineers, reliability personnel, asset owners, and technical leaders involved in cable testing, commissioning, maintenance, and condition assessment. Recommended for NETA Level III and Level IV technicians, with value for developing Level II technicians working under qualified supervision.
